Sri Lanka Wellness Retreat:
Jungle, Culture & the Indian Ocean

There are places that feel like they belong to another world... and Sri Lanka is one of them.

Sri Lanka is an jungle paradise in the Indian Ocean where ancient temples emerge from the greenery, wild elephants roam freely, and spiritual traditions that have shaped the East for thousands of years remain woven into everyday life. There is something about this place that feels almost dreamlike—where mythology and history, jungle and ocean, adventure and stillness all seem to exist side by side.

Traveling changes you, and retreats change you. The places we choose are ones that invite us into a deeper relationship—with the land beneath our feet, the culture that surrounds us, and the parts of ourselves that become easier to hear when we step away from the familiar.

There is a reason I choose the retreat locations I do, and Sri Lanka has been a calling for many years. A place this different, this beautiful, and this deeply rooted in culture has a way of expanding your perspective and reminding you just how much of the world there is left to experience.

Join us for a very unique island experience: surrounded by water, immersed in nature, and removed from the rhythms of everyday life. This is where we find space to slow down, pay attention, and reconnect.

For six nights, we'll gather on the southern coast of Sri Lanka at Talalla Retreat, a peaceful beachfront sanctuary nestled between the jungle and the sea. Sri Lanka's southern coastline is known for its warm turquoise waters, tropical landscapes, and laid-back surf culture. Whether you're hoping to catch a wave, swim in the Indian Ocean, or simply spend an afternoon with your feet in the sand, the ocean becomes an integral part of daily life here. In March, the water is wonderfully warm, inviting long swims, sunset dips, and plenty of time spent by the sea.

Throughout the week, we'll balance adventure, exploration, movement, and rest while experiencing some of the most memorable aspects of this extraordinary island.

When: March 13-19, 2027

Where: Talalla Retreat Center, Matara District, Southern Province of Sri Lanka

Why We Are Gathering Here

This retreat and location are designed to hand-in-hand offer the perfect balance of adventure, restoration, culture, and connection.

We'll spend our days moving our bodies, exploring ancient sites, learning from local traditions, enjoying incredible food, connecting with nature, and creating space to slow down in a way that's increasingly rare in everyday life. Oh, and also, a few “treat yourself” moments here and there, of course!

Adventure & Exploration

During our week together, we'll venture into a national park in search of wild elephants (eep!!) and other native wildlife, visit a sacred Buddhist and Hindu site rich with history and tradition, and learn the flavors and techniques of Sri Lankan cuisine during a hands-on cooking class.

Rest & Renewal

This retreat isn't about doing more—it's about creating space for what matters.

Enjoy daily movement practices, quiet moments by the ocean, one included spa treatment of your choice, and access to Talalla's beautiful Ayurvedic Bath House featuring a sauna, steam room, magnesium bath, cold plunge, and infrared therapy.

Connection

One of the most meaningful parts of any retreat is the people you share it with.

Whether we're gathering for home cooked meals, exploring the Sri Lankan landscape together, moving side-by-side in practice, or watching the sunset over the ocean, this week is designed to foster genuine connection—with yourself, with others, and with the land.

YOUR HOME IN SRI LANKA

Nestled between lush jungle and the Indian Ocean, Talalla Retreat is more than a retreat center—it's a sanctuary.

Set across 8.5 acres of tropical greenery and secluded beachfront, Talalla was intentionally designed to showcase the natural beauty, tranquility, and spirit of southern Sri Lanka. Palm trees sway overhead, ocean breezes drift through the property, and nature is woven into every corner of the experience.

The retreat center features multiple yoga shalas, Pilates equipment, a stunning 20-meter swimming pool, an Ayurvedic spa and bathhouse, and beautiful gathering spaces designed for both community and solitude.

One of the reasons I chose Talalla is because of the way they are woven into the local community. Many of the staff members come from the surrounding villages, creating an experience that feels connected to the people and culture of southern Sri Lanka.

Over the years, Talalla has also played an important role in supporting the region through community initiatives and disaster relief efforts. Their commitment extends beyond hospitality and wellness, reflecting a genuine care for the people and place they call home.

For me, that matters. When we travel, I want us to support destinations that not only showcase the beauty of a place, but actively contribute to the well-being of the communities that make it so special.

A Unique Retreat Experience

Unlike some of my previous retreats, where we've gathered in a private villa or exclusively rented property, Talalla is a larger purpose-built retreat center designed specifically for wellness, yoga, and transformational travel experiences.

While there may be other guests and retreat groups on the property during our stay, our group will have dedicated practice spaces, our own retreat programming, and shared meals designed specifically for our experience together.

One of the things I love about Talalla is the balance it offers. Our group will enjoy plenty of connection and time together while also benefiting from the energy of a thoughtfully designed retreat community. The property is spacious, peaceful, and spread across more than eight acres of jungle and beachfront, so there's ample room to find both community and solitude.

For me, it feels like the best of both worlds: an intimate retreat experience within a beautiful wellness destination created for people who value mindfulness, movement, connection, and well-being.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Talalla offers a variety of thoughtfully designed accommodations, allowing you to choose the experience that feels most aligned with you.

Open-Air Rooms

One of the most unique aspects of Talalla Retreat is the opportunity to stay in an open-air room.

Designed to immerse you in the natural beauty of Sri Lanka, these rooms allow you to fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle, wake up to birdsong, and experience the island in a way that few destinations can offer comfortably.

Each bed is protected with netting, and the coastal breezes keep the rooms naturally comfortable throughout the year.

For those looking for a truly memorable and immersive experience, these rooms are incredibly special. And yes, I will be staying in one!!

For guests who prefer a more traditional accommodation style, enclosed rooms with air conditioning are also available.

NOURISHMENT

Food is one of the most important parts of how we experience a place!

Throughout the retreat, we'll gather in the retreat’s beautiful open-air restaurant overlooking both the jungle and the ocean. Meals will be thoughtfully prepared by the culinary team on-site using seasonal ingredients sourced from local suppliers and organic gardens whenever possible.

We'll be working with the chef to create a menu specifically for our group—one that feels nourishing, flavorful, and reflective of the incredible ingredients and traditions of Sri Lanka!

HOW TO GET TO TALALLA

Your journey begins by flying into Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), located just outside of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital city.

From the airport, Talalla Retreat is approximately a 2.5 to 3-hour drive south along the coastline. The journey itself is beautiful—passing through small towns, palm-lined roads, and stretches of ocean views as you make your way into the southern part of the island.

We will help coordinate transportation from the town of Colombo or the airport, so your arrival and transfer to Talalla is as smooth and seamless as possible. We will coordinate shared pick-ups based on arrival times.

We recommend arriving into Colombo and planning to land no later than the early afternoon of March 13th so you can make your way to the retreat center in time to settle in and join our opening gathering (I will coordinate your ride to the retreat center, of course!)

With the practical details in place, we can turn toward what this journey is really about.

Morning swims in warm ocean water, and sunsets that seem to last forever.

The laughter shared over dinner.

The sound of the jungle outside your room at night.

The feeling of standing in a sacred place halfway around the world and realizing you've never felt more present.

The elephants wandering through the wild.

A week of adventure, connection, wonder, and rest.

The kind of experience that stays with you long after you've returned home, with new friends who have turned into a special kind of family.

This is more than a retreat.

It's an invitation to step outside the familiar, immerse yourself in an extraordinary corner of the world, and reconnect with yourself along the way.

We would love for you to experience it with us.

Need a nudge? See what a past retreater had to say:

"I'm lucky to say I've been to three of Nazli’s retreats — one local, two international — and each one has been transformative. She strikes the perfect balance of structure and freedom, weaving mindful movement, meditation, and adventure into days that leave you both energized and deeply reflective. Beyond the incredible (and delicious!) meals and beautiful settings, what stays with me is the community she creates — a space where genuine connection happens naturally and where I've walked away with real, magical, grounding shifts in how I live and what I value. If you're looking for a retreat that's as soulful as it is well-run, look no further than Baham."
